Speaking of Dr. Fasano…a more recent article. What I appreciate most about this interview is the validation of gluten sensitivity/intolerance when the celiac serology is negative.
The purpose of this website is to provide a communication forum for the gluten free community of the Montgomery (AL) area, which now has a local branch of the Gluten Intolerance Group of North America. Please see the GIG national website (http://www.gluten.net/) for great information on gluten intolerance. You can subscribe to RSS feeds to receive updates to this blog via email (see the sign-up box on the right-hand side) and we also have a Facebook page!

Many Thanks to Zoe’s Kitchen
Many thanks to Zoe’s Kitchen for providing such generous samples of its famous chicken salad. Not only has it always been gluten free, but now the menu item has been included as part of a separate GF menu. We passed out sample menus at the last meeting, but you can also view it here: Zoe's Kitchen GF Menu
Zoe’s managers have been some of the friendliest in town and most willing to listen to suggestions. While GIG-Montgomery would not receive any tangible benefit from you doing so, I would love to hear that our members sent a note of thanks. I am sure that any comments you post on the corporate website feedback link (http://www.zoeskitchen.com/feedback.asp) would eventually reach Montgomery’s management, but you can also contact the store directly: 334-270-9115.

Finally, congratulations to John & Mary Ficzere for winning the Zoe’s gift card for a dinner for 4. As you can see on Zoe’s website, there are several yummy options to use that card!

Zoe’s Kitchen at March Meeting
As previously posted, Pam Green, RD will give a presentation on the GF diet and we will be bringing our collective books to display on a resource table on 3/24. Below is a preview picture of some of those titles.
Exciting additional news: Zoe’s Kitchen will be providing enough chicken salad for 50 people to sample, along with a gift certificate for a raffle, so make plans to come! Zoe’s now has a separate GF menu with several options; they are most famous for their delicious chicken salad. We will provide GF crackers to go with it. We will also have copies of Zoe’s GF menu for you to take home.

Resource Table
GIG-Montgomery has received a complimentary copy of Cecelia’s Marketplace Gluten-Free Grocery Shopping Guide. This will be available for you to peruse at the March meeting, to see if you would like to purchase one. The company also sent brochures/order forms. I noticed that the same company produces a Gluten/Casein Free Grocery Guide, a Gluten/Casein/Soy Free Grocery Guide, and a Gluten-Free Mexican Cookbook.
Along with the GF Shopping Guide, the leaders of GIG-Montgomery plan to bring our personal books on celiac, gluten intolerance, cookbooks and related subjects to create a “resource table” at the March meeting. We invite any attendees to also bring your favorite books. Please ensure that all publications are clearly labeled with your name, so that you can take your books home after the meeting.

March Meeting
Mark your calendar for the March meeting! We will meet again at Taylor Road Baptist Church, on Thursday, March 24th from 6-7 p.m. However, we are moving into a bigger room, the Fellowship Suite (ground floor), which directly faces Wesley Garden Retirement Home and the Eastchase entrance.
Bring your questions for Pam Green, Registered Dietitian and Manager of the Baptist Health Center for Diabetes and Nutrition Education. Pam has been studying the unique nutritional needs of celiac patients for three years. Pam will offer an overview of the GF diet. Feel free to submit your questions to her ahead of time: pgreen@baptistfirst.org
